The Big Head Farm CSA program will be a 22 week program (6/2 - 10/27) consisting of our naturally grown vegetables and herbs. You also have the opportunity to obtain fruit, flowers and fresh farmers' eggs! Our season begins in June and ends in October each year. Each membership consists of one "Full", "Half" or "Solo" share of our vegetables and herbs. Or a full or half share of local fruit or farm fresh eggs.

We offer two ways to obtain your CSA share - pick up and delivery. Our pick up location for the 2012 season is on Saturdays at the Southport Farmers Market in the parking lot of Blaine School, 1420 W. Grace Street Chicago, IL. It runs June 23rd through October 6th, from 8 am until 1 pm (as of 1/5/12, the Southport Farmers Market has not updated their website to include the 2012 dates/times). Also, our season is longer than the farmers market (6/2 - 10/27) so we will be in the pay lot just north of the Blaine school play lot on Saturdays when the market isn't open.

Chicago CSA members read here!! The State of Illinois puts a 2.25% tax on all food items and farmers markets. CSA's are no exception.

There are a few other ways to obtain a CSA share - gifting or bartering. Feel free to ask about our gifting and bartering programs which can be customized to meet various ends.

As with any CSA program, your "share" is a year-long investment in the local food movement and Big Head Farm - we share the risks (storms, disease, bugs, etc.) and the benefits (vegetables, fruit, herbs, eggs, etc.). We will keep you apprised of the status of our crops as time passes. We will work hard to make your CSA experience the best it possibly can be. We will do our very best to strategically plant and harvest our crops so that you have a positively varied experience and that you enjoy the best vegetables, herbs and flowers we have to offer. Please remember that we need two somewhat unpredictable partners on our farm - nature and weather. Sometimes seeds don't germinate. Sometimes critters destroy crops (we have deer, turkeys, coyotes, rabbits, mice, moles, voles, raccoons, numerous birds, numerous insects, numerous plant diseases and fungi). Sometimes it rains too much/little. I'm sure you get the point.

In spite of these risks and the hard work, we still love what we do. Really!
